WALLEYE FISHING AT PINE CLIFF LODGE
ONTARIO FISHING LODGE, CANADA

Sam Simons' Walleye

We do not have walleye fishing on Sandybeach Lake.  Walleye like to move into deep water; and when they do that on Sandybeach Lake, they are eaten by the lake trout.

Our Ontario fishing lodge does have no charge remote boat-cache lakes that guests can go walleye fishing on during their trip to Pine Cliff Lodge.  One boat-cache lake requires boating to a portage trail on Sandybeach Lake and walking 1/3 mile to a walleye lake.  The 16' boat, 6 hp motor and gas are positioned on that lake.  Another boat-cache lake requires an 18.8 mile drive and the 16' boat and 15 hp motor are positioned at that lake.  Our last lake is 23.4 miles away and the last 1 ½ miles is a little rough.  A 16' boat and 15 hp motor are also positioned on this lake.  Maps are given to the guest detailing how to get to these boat-cache lakes and where to go walleye fishing.  Our Ontario fishing lodge is only allowed to keep one boat on each of these boat-cache lakes.

These boat-cache lakes do not have water deeper than 18 feet; therefore, the walleye do not have deep water to hide.  The walleye fishing is normally in 8 feet of water off of rocky shorelines.  The angler wants to be walleye fishing the shores receiving the wind, so that the angler is walleye fishing the "walleye chop".  The guests will locate walleye by trolling live bait off the bottom until a strike occurs.  Once the angler locates the walleye, jigging live bait is the most common method of walleye fishing.  When the walleye stop biting in that location, the angler trolls until more walleye are located.

Our guests will generally fish with a jig and minnow, jig and leech, or a jig and night crawler.  We do not have live bait available at our Ontario fishing lodge because so few of our anglers want to do walleye fishing.  Attaching a Little Joe Spinner to the jig may improve your walleye fishing.  It is easy to hang-up jigs in the rocks and lose jigs.  Anglers should always have a sufficient supply of jigs.

Walleye like low light conditions.  Cloudy days, early morning, and late afternoon tend to be better walleye fishing times.  Your host, Richard, will be glad to reserve these boat-cache lakes for you, if you choose to do a little walleye fishing at our Ontario fishing lodge.
