Pine Cliff Lodge offers great hunting opportunities for guests looking for black bear hunting, Canadian moose hunting, and ruffed grouse hunting in Ontario.  Our Ontario hunting takes place in late summer and fall.  Our location on the isthmus between Sandybeach Lake and Minnitaki Lake is the only land bridge for east/west wildlife movement for 35 miles.  This geographic location ensures plenty of wild game around Pine Cliff Lodge.

CANADIAN BULL MOOSE HUNTING - ARCHERY

Sorry, these hunts are sold and the waiting list is out ten years into the future.

Pine Cliff Lodge gets two bull moose tags each year.  Starting in 2007, we also receive two cow moose tags.  Your cow tag allows you to shoot either a cow or a calf.  The price of our archery cow moose hunt is $1,000 plus taxes, license, and export permit.  The cow moose hunting license is approximately $400, the taxes $130, export permit $35 and a fishing license is $50.

Pine Cliff Lodge is located in Ontario WMU 5.  We have chosen to only participate in archery moose hunts.  The archery moose season opens the third Saturday of September and ends on the Friday preceding the Canadian Thanksgiving.  This means the season ends sometime around October 7-10.  We recommend our bow hunters plan on hunting the last 10 days of the season.

In Ontario, you can use a bow or crossbow during the archery moose season.  Ontario does not limit crossbows to hunters physically unable to use a bow.  Bows must have a minimum draw weight of 40 pounds and a .87 or larger broad head with at least two cutting edges that are sharp, unserated, barbless, straight and made of steel.  Crossbows must have a minimum draw weight of 100 pounds and a broad head as described above.

The archery cow moose hunt is for 10 days.  You will stay in a log cabin that has a kitchen.  The cabin has a range, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, refrigerator, dishes, pots and pans, beds, bed linens, and a bathroom.  There are things you need to bring:  a current or previous hunting license or hunter safety card is required before we can issue an Ontario hunting license.  Your hunting clothes should be washed in scent-free soap (we recommend Wildlife Research) and enclosed in a scent free bag.  Your hunting clothes should accommodate 70 degree temperatures, snow and cold, and rain.  You need scent-free soap for your shower.  You are required to wear a hunter orange vest and cap (no camo orange).  You might need bug netting for head and hands.  You need a cooler big enough for 500 pounds of meat.  You get a boat and motor with your hunting package, so you may want to bring fishing gear.

How do you hunt cow moose?  Cow moose do not respond to calling like a bull moose during the rut.  Cows will move to perimeter areas to get into the open and away from bugs in the bush.  We are lucky at Pine Cliff Lodge because of moose trails coming out to the road about every half-mile.  Our hunters will set up on these trails in the mornings and afternoons.  Hunting is usually good from the half hour before sunrise until 10:00 a.m. and from 4:00 p.m until the half hour after sunset.  These prime times can enlarge if a cold front is pushing through the area.  Moose trails can go inactive, be active in the mornings only, be active in the afternoons only, or can be active at both times of the day.  If this was an easy hunt, we could sell 1 day hunts instead of 10-day hunts.
