ONTARIO GROUSE HUNTING
Pine Cliff Lodge offers great hunting opportunities for guests looking for black bear hunting, Canadian moose hunting, and ruffed grouse hunting in Ontario. Our Ontario hunting takes place in late summer and fall. Our location on the isthmus between Sandybeach Lake and Minnitaki Lake is the only land bridge for east/west wildlife movement for 35 miles. This geographic location ensures plenty of wild game around Pine Cliff Lodge.

Bird hunters have the opportunity to hunt ruffed, sharp-tailed and spruce grouse at Pine Cliff Lodge. The majority of our grouse are ruffed. This is good, because ruffed are the only species that tastes good. I tell hunters, "If you want to know what a spruce grouse tastes like, bite the limb of a spruce tree". We have very few sharp-tailed grouse, and they taste a little better than a spruce grouse. Most hunters only want one spruce or sharp-tailed to send to the taxidermist.
Grouse are on a seven year cycle for population numbers. Northwest Ontario does not experience as big of population swings as seen in the United States. Excessive rain or cold weather affecting the hatch will cause our biggest changes in numbers of birds seen in the fall. We find out how good the grouse numbers are in September, when grouse move from dense brush to open grass and clover.
Grouse hunting season opens September 15th each year. We offer grouse hunting the last two weeks of September and occasionally the first week of October.
Your host, Richard, will show his grouse hunters where hundreds of miles of logging roads are available to grouse hunt. Grouse hunters will find logging roads suitable for pickups, ATVs, and walking. Grouse hunters can use or not use dogs.
