Fishing at Pine Cliff Lodge
World Record Fish Caught and Released!
In August 2001, we received a copy of the World Record certificate for a 53 3/4 inch northern pike caught and released by one of our guests. Brian Barnes, age 19, of Wichita, Kansas, caught the world record pike on June 25, 2001, fishing with a lead-headed jig and a plastic Sassy Shad on 12-pound line. The 35-minute fight to land the pike was enjoyed by Brian's father, a younger brother, and a friend of the family. The pike, estimated to weigh 45 pounds, is the new 12 pound line class world record and was 1/4 inch short of the All Tackle world record.
The largest fish caught
in recent years:

Lake Trout . . . 37 1/2"
Northern Pike . . 53 3/4"
Smallmouth Bass . 22 1/4"
Perch . . . . . . 15"
Whitefish . . . . 28"

Easy Fishing
Sandybeach Lake is a cold, clear, secluded 10,000 acre lake as remote as many fly-in lakes due to the lack of public access other than the lodge access. With typically less then 12 boats on the lake, fishing pressure is light and our ratio of trophy size fish to guests OVER 50%. Sandybeach Lake is known for its Northern Pike, Smallmouth Bass and Lake Trout.

Guests can keep a limit of Pike under 27 1/2 inches, but trophy size fish must be released to preserve our sport fishing future. In 1996, we started "Catch and Release" only for Smallmouth Bass and the Bass fishing gets better each year with numbers of 3 1/2 pound and larger Bass. The Fishing Tackle section lists seasons and limits.

Some lakes are so large, so confusing, and so dangerous to navigate that a guide is essential. It is not so on Sandybeach Lake. Your host, Richard, provides you with a detailed map of the lake and spends at least 30 minutes upon your arrival explaining where each fish species can be caught, at what depth of water to fish, the lures and colors that work best, and the presentation you should use to make the lures work. Reefs are shown on the lake map and marked by buoys on the lake. An easy 20 minute boat trip will get you to the other end of our 7 mile long lake. No guides are available or needed on Sandybeach Lake.
